The Cynthia Cannell Literary Agency is a full-service literary agency in New York City active in both the national and the international publishing markets. We represent the authors of fiction as well as memoir, biography, self-improvement, spirituality, and nonfiction on contemporary issues.
Our authors are united by their high level of creativity, integrity and seriousness of purpose. We are committed to working closely with them to help bring their books into being, from the sharpening of the proposal to the marketing of the finished work. We take pride in the personal attention we provide to our authors, and in our depth of knowledge and presence in the publishing industry that enable us to guide our clients through every stage of their writing careers.

Before founding her literary agency in 1998, Cynthia Cannell was for twelve years the vice president of Janklow & Nesbit Associates. Prior to that she worked with Maria Campbell Associates as a book scout for foreign language publishers.  She received her editorial and subsidiary rights training at Simon & Schuster and as an associate editor at Joni Evans’ imprint, The Linden Press.

Ms. Cannell is a member of the Authors Guild and the Women’s Media Group, and a former board member of the Association of American Literary Agents. At the AALA, she is a member of the Ethics Committee and she and another Board member initiated a paid diversity internship program in partnership with CCNY.
